Instead of spreading pollution and noise, why don’t you think of spreading love and joy this Diwali? Diwali, the most celebrated festival in India was once rejoiced by lighting oil-lamps and enjoying homemade sweets with family and friends but now the celebration has moreover turned into a threat to our environment as well as health. Wasting money on the harmful and noisy crackers and increasing your electricity bills with electric illuminations is not the right way to celebrate this cheerful festival. Diwali should bring brightness rather than harming your life. Cutting down on fireworks and expenses will not reduce the spirit of the celebration. You can also brings sparks to your festivity with eco- friendly way. We are not asking you to sacrifice everything what you love but just a little compromise can brighten up your festive celebrations.

Yes its true, the celebration is incomplete without fireworks but do you know how hazardous it is to the environment, how the smoke can harm your health? Crackers are just waste of money. The noisy and fancy crackers though are enjoyable but are a big offender to the environment, they spread noise as well as air pollution. When you burst these crackers, you are inhaling the toxic fumes which are dangerous to your health. The sudden noise of the crackers can also affect your hearing. Babies and old people get easily affected by this sound. If you still feel crackers are important part of you celebration then instead of spending money on these wasteful items, you can opt for less hazardous crackers like sparklers or spend a bit more cash on eco-friendly crackers.

Diwali is a festival which has to be celebrated with your family and neighbors. Coming together on this occasion will not only bring more excitement and bonding but will reduce the cost of celebration. If you are living in a housing society, then all the families of the society can contribute and bring crackers. This will reduce the cost of crackers and also the level of pollution. As the expenses will be distributed among all the members, you can opt for eco-friendly crackers made up of recycled papers. With this you can have a happy and safe Diwali.

As mentioned above you can celebrate Diwali together by buying common fireworks. But if you are really thoughtful for the environment then there are various other ways to rejoice this festival. During Diwali, people prepare homemade snacks, hence this is a best time to develop good relationship with your neighbors. You can invite your neighbors to your place to have the delicacies and exchange greetings or gifts. You can play some indoor games too. You can arrange some competitions like creating different shapes and designs with oil-lamps, making colorful rangolis, etc.; this will bring more fun in the celebration. You can also do a good deed on this grand occasion. All the members of the society can bring light in the lives of needy people. Do you know how much electricity gets consumed with those fancy and colorful lightings? Diwali is the festival of lights but to bring home the light, there is no need of these lightings. The traditional and true way of celebrating Diwali is by burning oil-lamps, they not only save money and electricity but they look classy too. If you want to add more elegance, then you can go for floating candles also. Burn the candles and oil-lamps all around, switch off the lights and check out how stunning and dramatic your home looks. If you want to adorn your home with colorful lightings then there are energy-efficient lights available in market which is cost-effective and eco-friendly.
